Aspex needs your help to save its Family Saturdays workshops

2nd May 2019

Portsmouth’s Aspex gallery is calling for your support to save its weekly workshop for children and families.

Since being founded in 2016, ‘Family Saturdays’ has encouraged over 3,000 children to explore their creativity – building vital skills and confidence. The workshops, led by local artists, run every Saturday at the gallery, and are an opportunity for children to spend quality time with their parents/guardians. However, with funding due to come an end this year, the gallery now needs your help to continue this important programme.

Aspex’s crowdfunding campaign aims to raise £4,500 to continue operating these workshops. Rewards will be available for people who pledge their support, including unique work from artists.

Vicky Chapter, Participation & Learning Manager at Aspex, said:

We [Aspex] believe that everyone has the right to access art, and the benefit that it has upon our wellbeing and development. Because of this it is crucial to us that these workshops continue to operate and remain free for children and families — so that they are fully accessible to everyone in our community.

A parent, and regular attender of the workshops, said:

I really hope the crowdfunder brings in enough money for these sessions to continue running. With the Sure Start centres closing – things for young children and families to do together are almost gone from the city. This is really precious and we all really need it.

Your contribution can make a real difference, as all donations made will be match funded by Arts Council England thanks to their Catalyst: Evolve programme – meaning the money raised will go even further.

The crowdfunder closes at 10am on Saturday 25 May. Support the #SaveFamilySaturdays campaign here.
