Julia Keenan receives Alumni Residency 2019

9th Apr 2019

Aspex have selected artist Julia Keenan, graduate of University for the Creative Arts (UCA) Farnham for their Platform Graduate Award Alumni Residency 2019. The residency runs from April for 10 weeks.

Every year Aspex selects artwork by two students studying Fine Art or Photography from higher education partners to be featured within a group exhibition for the Platform Graduate Award. As of 2016, Alumni of the award have been offered the opportunity to apply for a solo residency at the gallery, offering them a space to develop their artwork and process. Previous recipients of the residency opportunity include Charlotte Bradley (2016) and Svetlana Ochkovskaya (2017).

Julia Keenan said:

My selection for the Platform Graduate Award in 2015 was a great opportunity, becoming part of the Alumni programme and taking part in events hosted by CVAN South East – learning how to sustain a creative practice following graduation. Moving forward, this residency at Aspex will allow me to develop ideas about a new body of work.

Oliver Sumner, CVAN South East Manager, said:

Artists in the Platform Alumni Network were all selected since 2012, from 17 universities in the South East, to exhibit in the Platform Graduate Award. The network is a way for the partner galleries to continue to nurture the artists’ development, so we are delighted Aspex is able to dedicate an annual residency as a testing ground for a Platform Alumni artist. Julia Keenan will make the most of this opportunity to experiment and we can expect some surprising new work.
