Network members shortlisted for the Freelands Award 2019
11th Jun 2019
Congratulations to John Hansard Gallery, MK Gallery and Towner Art Gallery, who have all been nominated for this year’s Freelands Award.
The three organisations are in the running for the £100,000 award alongside Firstsite in Colchester, Hepworth Wakefield and The MAC in Belfast. The winning organisation, and their selected mid-career female artist, will be announced in autumn 2019.
The Freelands Award was established in 2016 by Freelands Foundation Founder, Elisabeth Murdoch, with the aim to raise the profile of mid-career female artists and support the work of cultural institutions outside of London. The Freelands Award plays a pivotal role in enabling a regional arts institution to realise and implement a project which it could not bring to fruition without this funding opportunity. Due to the eligibility criteria of the Award, which supports the creation of an exhibition by a particular mid-career female artist, the institution will strengthen the reputation of this figure and enable the artist to create an ambitious new work, fulfilling their creative aspirations.
