New House Art Space
3rd Feb 2023
New House Art Space & Davies-Gilder Gallery launched in late 2021 and is home to twenty artist studios; a reception area that’s now home to the delectable Koja Coffee shop; and the Davies-Gilder gallery hosting exhibitions, workshops and artist talks in central Guildford, Surrey.
The community art space was originally earmarked for demolition; but in late 2021 the team behind music and creative arts space, The Boileroom, transformed the building to accommodate. Our ethos is to create an inspiring & inclusive space for all to be creative and grow their artistic practices.
“A brand new creative hub in the heart of Guildford where like-minded individuals, groups and organisations can share spaces – and ideas.” – Founder, Dominique Frazer.
New House residents range from fine artists, muralists, sculptors, actors, to artisan makers.
In a post-covid world, founder Dom Frazer saw the need for a space for the local creative community to be able to come together, after such a long period of isolation.
The positive social engagement in just the first year of opening have been impactful, collaborating with local charitable organisations like Blossom LGBT to host a workshop creating protest placards; hosting an open callout for International Women’s Day championing women artists, to exhibitions Scream of the Butterfly and Shadow Self raising awareness for mental health issues; New House is also a space to give a voice to the social-political struggles of our times.
New House is very much a space for people to mould and define collectively – the people that engage with the space, as visitors, residents, exhibiting artists, are what make it.
