peck o’ trouble exhibition
2nd Oct 2018
From 2 – 25 November at the Regency Town House in Hove, artist Suzanne O’Haire presents a new series of work titled beyond belief.
Set within the drawing rooms of this historic Grade 1 listed building, thirty-four acrobatically stacked, bundled or tentatively balanced compositions perform as supposed magical sigils or spells for this solo exhibition. These domestic-scale sculptural assemblages are created from discarded objects, castings (from disposed packaging) and elements of neon lighting.
The exhibition title comes from a remark made by Margaret Alice Murray, who discovered a small, silvered glass phial purported to contain a mischievous witch. Found around 1915, not far from the Regency Town House, this witch in a bottle – as it is more commonly termed – is now housed in Oxford’s Pitt Rivers Museum.
