Platform Alumni Artist Focus – Sophie Dixon
16th Jan 2018
Sophie Dixon was awarded the Platform Graduate Award in 2014, nominated by Turner Contemporary. Sophie has a BA Fine Art from the University of Kent and a Masters of Film from the Netherlands Film Academy.
“My name is Sophie Dixon and I work with film and more recently, Virtual and Mixed reality.
“In 2014 I received the Platform Graduate Award and spent the following year busy with residencies, solo, and group shows in the UK and overseas. In 2015 I was selected, as one of ten international students, for an MA at the Netherlands Film Academy. I graduated in 2017 and exhibited my Mixed Reality installation, The Chorus at the EYE Filmmuseum, Amsterdam.
“Since then I’ve moved to Brighton, where I’m continuing to work with immersive media and am developing my knowledge of the medium. Regarding the year ahead, I’m presenting at the international iDocs conference in March, lecturing on film, and working on some exciting personal and collaborative projects.
“I’m also planning the ‘Nothing From Nothing’ two day residency and evening event for 10 artists, and am developing the event with another artist who participated in Platform 2014. The event will take place at LIMBO in Margate, as part of the local programme of events happening around Turner Contemporary’s exhibition Journeys with ‘The Waste Land later this year.”
