16th Feb 2024
What forms of access support and funding are available for disabled, D/deaf and neurodivergent visual arts workers?
CVAN South East is pleased to be hosting two free training sessions on Access to Work for employers / commissioners and disabled artists / workers in the visual arts sector.
Access to Work is a statutory fund that helps to create a more accessible work environment. It provides grants to remove barriers that disabled people face in undertaking paid employment or self-employment. The sessions will demystify Access to Work, touching on different forms of support and reasonable adjustments that can be provided.
Join Cathy Waller as she gives clear guidance and answers your questions on getting access support for your work or artistic practice.
Who is it for?
The two sessions will cover similar content from the perspectives of employers and individuals. The first is designed for individual artists and other workers in the visual arts, whether employed or self-employed. The second session will be relevant to visual arts organisations of any scale wishing to learn how they can support disabled employees.
What will it cover?
Attendees will get an easy introduction to how Access to Work grants can support disabled workers in the visual arts sector, whether employed or self-employed (including artists and freelancers). There will be time for questions and plenty of tips.
For instance:
- How do you begin to identify the kind of support you need?
- How do you go about applying for Access to Work funding?
- What are the eligibility criteria?
- How can employers benefit and are there any costs?
- How to have a conversation with your employer / employee / commissioned artist about adaptations and support needs?
- What is the difference between a support worker, a work coach and a job aide?
- What occupational support is available more generally, and how do you ask for it?
