Announcing the winner of the Platform Graduate Award 2023

We are delighted to announce the 2023 Platform Graduate Award has been awarded to Zahra Khanum. 

A graduate of the University of Plymouth, Khanum specialises in filmmaking, photography, and oil painting to investigate how place, memory and migration influenced the complexities of South Asian Identity in Britain. As part of the award, she will receive a year’s bespoke mentorship and a £2,000 bursary to support the next stages of her artistic practice post-university.

The five runners-up, Leilani June (Arts University Bournemouth); George Marrington (University of Reading); Sara Paowana (University of Brighton); and Charlie Buurman-Davies (University of the Creative Arts, Canterbury) will also receive a bursary of £125.

We would like to say a huge congratulations to all of the artists nominated for this year’s award, and to our partner arts organisations Aspex Portsmouth; Modern Art Oxford; Phoenix Art Space; MIRROR/Arts University Plymouth; Turner Contemporary; and Visual Arts South West for their support.
