Jerwood Gallery to reopen as Hastings Contemporary on 6 July
7th Jun 2019
To celebrate its launch Hastings Contemporary will open with two major exhibitions celebrating the rich tradition of painting in modern and contemporary art: Tal R: eventually all museums will be ships, features new and coastal-themed works from the Israeli-born, Danish artist; and the first major public gallery exhibition of British artist Roy Oxlade in Roy Oxlade: Shine Out Fair Sun.
Director Liz Gilmore stated:
We are excited to launch Hastings Contemporary with major exhibitions of Tal R and Roy Oxlade alongside one-room display of David Bomberg and our Artist Patron Sir Quentin Blake. The extraordinary talents, abundant creativity and intuitive approach of each artist, fly the flag for painting and rather poignantly mark the journey of Hastings Contemporary as it sets sail in new waters. We’re excited to be launching this new chapter in Hastings history and to continue to bring world-class exhibitions to our cherished seaside town.
Please note: The gallery will be closed from Monday 10 June until its relaunch on Saturday 6 July.
